Coca-Cola Bottle Openers

Before the days of plastic twist caps, glass Coca-Cola bottles had to be opened with a bottle opener.  Even though the twist-off cap has made life easier in some respects, there was just something about using a bottle opener to take the bottle cap off of the glass Coke bottle.

Over the years many companies have made different kinds of Coke bottle openers as both a way to open a bottle of Coca-Cola and also a means of advertising the product.  Some of the early Coke bottle openers game in various shapes like a baseball player or a sword.  Other Coke bottle openers could be attached to the wall so you could remove the cap without using two hands, which was handy for mounting near the icebox or fridge.  One of the more popular vintage Coke bottle openers had a simple design and inscribed in it was simply this “Have a Coke”.  Unfortunately it just became too expensive to produce glass bottles and most soda companies switched to plastic bottles, which marked the end of an era.  Now, bottle openers have become more of a collectors item and some teens today might not even know what it was used for!
