Coca-Cola Bottles

No other bottle is more recognizable than the classic Coca-Cola bottle, mostly because of it's distinct contoured shape.  The Coke bottle with its contour can be traced back to 1915 when it was launched as a competition between it's bottle suppliers.  One of the companies that was competing to win the competition to create the Coke bottle was the Root Glass Company.  Inspired by a picture of a cocoa pod, the design team created a bottle that would become the signature Coke bottle that we are familiar with today.  It took a few years, but by 1920 the bottle had been adopted throughout the various Coca-Cola bottling facilities around the world.

These original bottles were used for many years and right into the early 1980's when glass bottles were replaced by plastic bottles.  These new bottles didn't require a bottle opener to enjoy the drink, but many people will tell you, it just wasn't the same.  The glass bottle is part of Coca-Cola and is still recognizable.  It is still available in small quantities and you often see them at novelty stores and sometimes in your local supermarket.
